Braai news in South Africa

Believe it or not, meat prices have actually come down since the start of the year. This should make it more affordable for South African braai lovers to have loads of braai's this festive season.

Meat prices have been trending along the same lines as the international market with a decline of 0.6% since September.

Pork prices have declined as a result of an import demand decline, whereas other meat prices have followed an upward trend this year.

The global market has been under pressure for poultry as a result of high feed costs and the effects of the outbreak of the avian flu.

What are the Meat Price Trends in South Africa?

Chicken

The price of poultry is higher compared to other meat types. Fresh birds are up by 5% and frozen up by 4%. Egg prices are up 5% for half a dozen.

Pork

Pork is up by 7% because of the exchange range offsetting the lower global prices.

Beef

Beef prices are up by 0.6% while the weaner prices are down by 1.4% compared to last month.

Mutton

The price of mutton hasn't had much movement, only the loin chops have seen an increase in the last couple of months.
