Ten Lifestyle Changes to become a better Leader
Practicing effective leadership and being an entrepreneur is both fulfilling and at times the hardest thing to do. It takes so much sacrifice in the pursuit of becoming a great leader. You would be expected to have leadership qualities that encourage team members to be positive, happy and motivated even if you are feeling pressurised or at your lowest.
And sometimes it can take more than it should, so having a lifestyle that can help you mitigate the negative factors is imperative.
Effective leaders know how to delegate tasks to the team, especially those things that the leader no longer needs to do themself. This helps employees feel of value, that they are gaining new skills and that you (the leader) are depending on them. There is nothing worse than just being another number, we all need a purpose and want to be part of the solution and success.
Let's look at 10 simple ways to improve your lifestyle and thereby become a better leader who is happy both on a personal and professional level and within their role:
1) Control your time
You need to be disciplined with time. Sometimes you need to spend time to save time. Like innovating on a process that might be wasting a lot of time. Being well planned is what helps you manage your time wisely.
This control of time will not yield results if you are not consistently well planned. Sporadic improvements will never gain enough momentum to make lasting change. You must be consistent.
2) Maintain a healthy lifestyle
Healthy body, healthy mind. Ensure you try maintain a balance with diet and exercise. This will impact so many areas of your life but most of all give you the focus and positive energy needed to lead your team.
3) Celebrate your wins
Don't get caught up in the doing that you forget to celebrate your wins along the way. The only thing certain in life is tax and death, chasing a destination means you are not celebrating the growth and wins along the way. Life is more than just arriving and being successful, enjoy the ride.
4) Stop living in fear
Stop fearing failure or constantly worrying about what others think. Chart your own course and be steadfast in your convictions. There is more to life than everyone else's opinions, find what makes you happy and do more of that.
Failure if experienced is still part of the learning process. There are so many successful people who failed over and over again and refused to give up. It is the refusal to give up and lessons learned along the way that make the difference.
5) Take time off
You can't sustain working 7 days a week indefinitely. At some point you need to accept help and start to delegate tasks so that you can obtain balance. Most businesses require 3-5 years to build the security of keeping their doors open, so ensure along the way you take the time to recharge so that you have the energy needed for this journey.
6) Always keep a check on your mental health
Your mental health can impact your physical ability to get up and show up. Making sure that you take care of your mental health is equally important as physical health.
7) Read up on other entrepreneurs
Read books of other entrepreneurs. This is an easy way to learn some of the things they do that has helped them on their journey to success.
8) Work smarter not harder
Look at how your run your day and work and look at potential areas for improvement in efficiency. You shouldn't have to work harder when you can find innovative ways to achieve the same thing.
9) Get out of your head
Often, we spend a lot of time in our thoughts. This is good to an extent, it can become toxic if this is where you dwell. Develop the mental ability to analyse to a point, and then learn to switch off.
10) Be an action person not a person of excuses
There is nothing worse than someone who is always promising to do something and then ends up just making excuses of why they couldn't get it done. Make sure that what you put out to the world is an image of someone who gets things done. Don't keep talking about it, get right to doing it instead.
